beWoolen's Knitted Knockers Campaign with Laura
Please join us as we welcome our local "Knitted Knockers Ambassador" - Laura (pictured above). Laura has been knitting and donating knockers for quite some time; frequently challenging herself to knit one a day. We have joined forces with her to contribute to this worthy cause.
We have set a goal for the beWoolen family to knit, gather, and donate 50 pairs of Knitted Knockers between now and Breast Cancer Awareness month in October. With your help, we would love to crush this goal! When you purchase your Knitted Knockers yarn from us and donate your completed pair of knockers; we will give you a $5 store credit towards your next beWoolen purchase. (Limit of 5 credits per person) We will have stuffing for knockers at the store.
A great big THANK YOU to all of you that joined us on our first Knitted Knockers Zoom Meeting - we thoroughly enjoyed our time together. Plus - BARB was there - the founder of the Knitted Knockers movement.
We have already had several pairs of Knockers donated to us at the store. We will be keeping track and letting you know how we are tracking towards our goal.
We are making plans with Laura to hold more zoom meetings - so please stay tuned to our newsletters for future dates and times - these will typically all be Wednesday evenings. At the Zoom meetings, we will KAL/CAL with Laura as she shares her insights about the knockers program, plus tips and tricks about making and stuffing knockers to be donated.
Do you know some folks that do not a knit or crochet, but still want to help? Consider making a donation to cover postage and supplies. Please go to knittedknockers.org for information on how and where to donate.
Please share this information with fellow stitchers - we would love to collect as many knockers as we can for donation.
We have knit and crochet printed patterns here at beWoolen, as well as lovely shades of Cascade Ultra Pima cotton yarn to choose from - see below for link to Cascade Ultra Pima.
From Laura's Blog:
Knitting Knockers is surprisingly easy, so is crocheting them. Knitted knockers are made with no seam, in one piece. It is easy to grab and go, it is the best instant gratification project. The best part: every knocker you finish is going to change the way someone feels about themselves.
Outside of the yarn, you don’t need much: Size 4 or 5 DPNS, a darning needle, scissors.
Additional Information from KnittedKnockers.org ~
Knitted Knockers are special handmade breast prosthesis for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast. Traditional breast prosthetics are usually expensive, heavy, sweaty and uncomfortable. They typically require special bras or camisoles with pockets and can’t be worn for weeks after surgery. Knitted Knockers on the other hand are soft, comfortable, beautiful and when placed in a regular bra they take the shape and feel of a real breast. Our special volunteer knitters provide these FREE to those requesting them.
Knockers are needed in all sizes and colors so have fun making the Knockers of your choice. By far the most requested are neutral colors though and matching pairs are greatly needed.
Please note that only knockers made from approved patterns and approved yarns will be used for distribution of knockers at knittedknockers.org. Please visit the site linked below for the full list.
Check out our latest new designs by beWoolen that explore the use of happy + fun color combinations, various stripe sequences, plus simple knitting techniques to get us through the next weeks.
Join us as we "Zoom" for the next month on Saturday mornings from 10-12pm starting this week (5/16) to work on these projects, until we can - fingers crossed- be with all of you again. For each of these designs, we are including the pattern for free via digital download with each kit purchased, as a way to say thank you to all of you for your support. We cannot even begin to express our appreciation for all the love we have received from everyone in our stitching community.
