Fixing Knitting Mistakes with Confidence

Dropped a stitch? Twisted your knitting? Discovered a mistake rows back and not sure what to do? This workshop is all about helping you feel confident and in control when things go wrong in your knitting. Through hands-on practice and guided demos, you’ll learn how to spot common mistakes and fix them—without starting over. Whether you're a newer knitter or have been stitching for years, this class will help you take control of your projects and knit fearlessly!
Skills learned:
- How to read your knitting and recognize when something’s gone wrong
- How to fix dropped stitches
- How to tink (unknit) stitch by stitch
- How to ladder down and re-knit a section several rows below
- How to untwist stitches or fix mount issues
- How to identify and correct accidental increases or decreases (like extra yarn overs or missed stitches)
- How to use a lifeline in tricky or delicate sections (like lace)
- How to decide when to fix, fudge, or let it go—because sometimes close enough is good enough!
What You'll need:
- Light-colored worsted-weight yarn
- US size 7 or 8 knitting needles
- Crochet hook (size G or H)
- Tapestry needle
- Locking stitch markers
- Small scissors
- Notebook and pen for notes
Students should be comfortable with casting on, knitting, purling, and binding off—no need to be an expert, just ready to learn and get a little fearless! Before class, you’ll receive an email with simple swatch instructions to complete at home. These practice swatches will be used during class to work on fixing common mistakes. Please bring your completed swatches to class, so you’re ready to jump in and practice.
Homework: Purchase your yarn and needles before the date of your first class. Knit your swatches as described per email.
