Hat/Cowl Class: Description: In this two-session class, students will learn how to knit their choice of a Starlight and Timber Hat or Cowl. The hat comes in three sizes and with two brim styles. The cowl pattern makes medium or large sizes. Topics include: using a German Twisted cast-on, knitting in the round, making a brim fold (if making that version of the hat), crown shaping, and a stretchy bind-off for the cowl. Are you an overachiever? Make both for a fabulous set!

Skills learned:

• Read and follow a hat or cowl pattern
• Knit in the round using a circular needle
• German Twisted Cast-On
• Creating fold rows for folded brim hats
• Shaping the crown of a hat using spaced decreases
• Finish the cowl using a favorite stretchy bind-off
• Finishing and blocking techniques

Materials:

Printed copy of the Starlight and Timber Hat or Cowl, 16” or 24” circular knitting needles in sizes US 10.5 (6.5mm) and US 11 (8.0mm), up to 124 yds of Malabrigo Chunky yarn, yarn tapestry needle, row counter, measuring tape, stitch marker, scissors, pom pom (if desired).
